Metallica has donated $250,000 to Direct Relief and World Central Kitchen – $125,000 each – to help the people of southern Turkey and northern Syria. The region was recently struck by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake that has killed more than 36,000 people; a number that is tragically rising. The current estimation of damage in Turkey alone is $84 billion.
"All Within My Hands is contributing $125,000 grants to Direct Relief and World Central Kitchen to assist in funding much-needed medical aid and meals," said Metallica on their All Within My Hands (AWMH) foundation website.
"AWMH has strong, established partnerships with these organizations, and we remain committed to supporting both because of their ability to reach the source of destruction and provide aid to the affected communities and individuals. Direct Relief and WCK have had boots on the ground providing hands-on relief since the day after the quakes hit."
If you're looking for a good way to help, here's a good list of foundations and drives to get you started. High On Fire bassist Jeff Matz is also auctioning off some very cool band merchandise on his Instagram, with all proceeds going to the people of Turkey and Syria. Check that out here.
