Watch: METALLICA's James Hetfield First Live Performance Since Rehab

metallica james hetfield

Metallica frontman James Hetfield is trying to get back in the swing of things. After appearing at a car show last month, his first public appearance since checking into rehab last year, Hetfield returned to the stage last night, February 20th.

The occasion was a Eddie Money tribute show, for the rock legend who died last September. Before Hetfield broke into his somber, acoustic version of "Baby Hold On," he told a story about how he knew Eddie.

"So I got to hang out with Eddie, the last probably three years of his life," Hetfield begins as he strums his guitar. Hetfield reveals he met Money at a Raiders game. "He kinda blew me off, and I thought, 'who is is this pompous ass?'" he jokes. "So it was like two big dogs going in a circle around each other, which was kinda funny. I saw through it, I saw through that ego, and he saw through mine, and we got to be friends, because I think our egos matched the size of our insecurities."
