You may remember France's P.H.O.B.O.S. from their split with Blut Aus Nord in 2014, called Triunity. The Paris trio shares some commonalities with their split partner's later discography as well as bands like Godflesh. Their industrial take on black and doom metal continues on their fourth full-length record, Phlogiston Catharsis.
"Neurasthen Logorrh" is six minutes of pounding synths fused with mid-tempo doom metal that almost loops on itself. Heavy distortion and keyboards abound, P.H.O.B.O.S. create a sinister trance that worms its way into a listener's brain. Overall, it capitalizes on a dark industrial sound that is uniquely its own and avoids the pitfalls of just trying to sound like the genre's biggest names.
