The swirling mass of black and death metal, often dubbed as War Metal, gets championed by bands like Revenge and Blasphemy. While a plethora of bands simply resolves to masturbatory emulations, there are thankfully other bands who step outside of this pitfall. Fresno's Malefic Levitation exemplifies the latter. The newly-minted duo releases their first demo, The Ancient Plague, later this month and builds the foundation of a fruitful path in menacing metal.
"The Black Wind" is the penultimate track on this debut demo. The six and a half minute track rips through pummeling guitar rhythms and relentless blasting with a command similar to hardened musicians. This command comes from two minds who are still making their way through the first quarter century of life. Their ability to harness dissonance is certainly impressive—especially in their very first demo.
