Weekly Injection

THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From BABYMETAL, ENTHEOS, and More Out Today – 4/1

This edition might be the most diverse Weekly Injection yet with EDM metal, oodles of bass slaps, Mike Patton moaning, and more! To the metals…

The Algorithm – Brute Force81lHhfc4vhL._SL1200_

Genre: Electronic metal
Origin: Perpignan, France
Label: Fixt

This is just some cool shit. Half djenty metal, half EDM, all instrumental. It totally isn't for everyone though as the beeps, boops and bass drops might drive some people a little crazy. Djent has infused electronic elements for a long time, but this band is bringing them to the forefront.

Babymetal – Metal Resistance614OHTckzvL

Genre: Pop metal
Origin: Japan
Label: RAL/Sony

Speaking of not for everyone… Babymetal, perhaps the most divisive band of the last decade, have returned with their second record of heavy J-Pop. Musically diverse and vocally adorable, Babymetal soar in every way on the new album. If you didn't get them by now, this album probably won't change your mind. Still, it's hard to deny that lightning struck twice with this phenomenon.

I can hear your fingers pounding the keyboard already, "FUCK THIS SITE! WHERE IS THE REAL METAL?!" First off, eat a dick, second, here you go! On their seventh record, Moonsorrow are taking you on an epic journey with Jumalten Aika. It features five lengthy tracks of folksy, blackened metal that include some accordion, jaw harp, and recorder. Entheos – The Infinite Nothing81RJHKwsVPL._SL1200_

Genre: Experimental deathcore
Origin: California/Tennesse
Label: Artery

Buy now on Amazon.com

I half-expected this band to be a one-off project after their EP Primal, so I was pleasantly surprised when The Infinite Nothing was announced. Within the genre, this album is a game changer. The technicality, the genre blending, and the song writing on this record are all top notch. They've certainly earned the "experimental" label more than they deserve the "deathcore" label.

Kaada/Patton – Bacteria Cult917h8h5sAoL._SL1500_

Genre: Experimental
Origin:  Stavanger, Norway/Eureka, California
Label: Ipecac

Buy now on Amazon.com

Not metal. Not even rock really. However, everything Mike Patton does carries a fuck you attitude and, at the core, and I feel like that's pretty metal. The Kaada/Patton collaborations have been historically weird symphonic soundscapes rather than a verse-chorus song situations. This is no different, yet at the same time it is wildly different. If you feel like getting weird, and a little creepy this week, this is your record.

Novembre – Ursa81Rmjd-1N0L._SL1200_

Genre: Progressive gothic/doom
Origin: Rome, Italy
Label: Peaceville

Buy now on Amazon.com

I've been waiting for this album for a long, long time. Actually, I can't believe that I've already been rocking Novembre's last record, The Blue, for nine years. They haven't missed a beat in that time though. This record is epic, atmospheric, stunning doom that will engross the listener.

Tombs – All Empires Fall818c-lfcKmL._SL1200_

Genre: Blackened post-metal
Origin: Brooklyn, New York
Label: Relapse

Buy now on Amazon.com

Ending this week in a heavy, dark place. This EP is for those that loved the band's 2014 breakthrough, Savage Gold. It is the logical continuation of that solid LP. If you're unfamiliar, this band is like if Nachtmystium cut the shit, drop-tuned super low, and beat the shit out of you.
