A number of North America's most prominent cabals are coming together for a brand new festival in the Pacific Northwest. The inaugural Torment is Flesh occurs this January in Portland and will showcase some of the most elusive and raw talents in the United States. Portland is home to Vrasubatlat and Unseen Force—two labels that work tirelessly to bring undoubtedly raw metal and noise to the masses. The two forces recently announced that they have combined to make this unique festival a possibility. In addition to these two labels' rosters, Brooklyn collective, House of First Light, and Philadelphia/Iceland sect, Mystískaos, and more will represent at the festival.
This lineup is certainly stacked and each act brings something harrowing and visceral in its own way. Dense feedback and unforgiving black metal are simply a couple examples of what to expect. Growing names like Triumvir Foul, Sanguine Eagle, and Skáphe immediately draw attention. However, other acts like harsh noise specialist, The Rita, and power electronics entity, Terror Cell Unit, will also perform. Personal favorites, in addition to the ones mentioned earlier, include Uškumgallu, Purity of Essence, and Ozama. Make sure to check out these bands and get out to Portland from January 5-7. The first day occurs at High Water Mark while the second and third days happen at Tonic Lounge.
