We haven't heard from Babymetal much this year. Since the Japanese teen trio performed with Rob Halford at the AltPress Awards, they have been pretty under-the-radar overall, and now we know why.
Today, Babymetal announced they are teaming with Warner Bros digital studio Blue Ribbon Content and Amuse USA for a new digital series that will combine live action and animation. According to Deadline Hollywood:
The action-adventure will take viewers inside the magical world of heavy metal music as it comes under attack, and one lonely god, Kitsune, forms the warrior band Babymetal to save the day. In the series, Su-Metal, Yuimetal and Moametal join together to ultimately redefine the genre. The series also will feature new live-action performances from the group, who will enter the animated world through a secret portal.
This makes perfect sense and it's surprising the show took this long to create. These girls and the mythology of Babymetal, with the fox god and everything would work perfectly in a short-form medium of videos, and surely it would help reintroduce some of the band's music to younger fans.
Babymetal is already working at converting young music fans into metalheads. Opeth frontman Mikael Akerfeldt has said the band helped get his daughter into metal and out of One Direction.
