When Brian Johnson sadly announced he would not be able to complete AC/DC's Rock or Bust tour, out of fear that he might permanently lose all hearing, AC/DC announced that the 10 remaining dates of their tour would be rescheduled for later in the year, likely with a guest vocalist.
At the time, we questioned what vocalist could possibly fill Johnson's shoes, and be of value to AC/DC fans. They can't just get some schmuck off the street with a great voice, or risk being called a glorified cover band. Well, looks like AC/DC found their man, and it's a name worthy of being guest vocalist. The rumor is Axl Rose, who is in the midst of a Guns N Roses reunion, will step into the vocalist spot for AC/DC. Jason Bailey, DJ for Atlanta radio station Rock 100.5 was the first to report the rumor as transcribed by Alternative Nation:
“This is what I’m being told, Axl was meeting with the AC/DC group, because it’s all but a done deal that Axl will front AC/DC for the 10 remaining shows. All 10, including Atlanta.”
“From what I was told, this was all kind of new inside information to me, Angus is a very black and white guy. He’s like, Brian, for health reasons, can’t continue fronting the band. He was supposed to retire after the last tour, so they wanted to continue going out on the road and continue making music, so if you can’t do it, we appreciate your services, but the show must go on. They’re in town, they were auditioning people for the job, and then they flew Axl in, again, this is from my source.”
Adding fuel to the fire is that the first AC/DC show postponed was in Atlanta, and hey remember last week when a fan ran into Axl Rose to report that Axl said GNR would be touring? Guess where that was? Atlanta! Why was Axl in Atlanta? Was he taking meetings with AC/DC? Maybe!
But would Axl even have the time to do the 10 shows? I'm sure the money is going to be huge, and as a fan of both acts, it really makes these 10 shows must-see, something I did not think a week ago. MetalSucks pointed us to this clip of Axl singing the AC/DC classic "Whole Lotta Rosie" as a way imagine what Axl fronting AC/DC would be like. Looks fun…
