CANNIBAL CORPSE Lyrics & Artwork Banned in Russia

Translations of Cannibal Corpse lyrics, along with the band's album covers, have been banned from distribution in Russia according the Russian Legal Information Agency.

The Oktyabrsky District Court of Ufa ruled against Cannibal Corpse this past Friday after receiving complaints from residents in the city of Ufa over the band's violent lyrics. The residents complained that the lyrics could possibly "damage the mental health of children because they contain descriptions of violence, the physical and mental abuse of people and animals, murder and suicide – all accompanied by illustrations."

The report says that the Ufa court agreed with the Prosecutor's Office of Bashkortostan that Cannibal Corpse art and lyrics could cause damage in the public domain, and said that they will explain the process to ban the lyrics later. Russia passed an anti-blasphemy law last year, introducing fines fines and possible prison sentences for offending the "feelings of religious believers." And it appears that they are truly butt-hurt over Cannibal Corpse.

Before the start of their tour in October, a Russian Orthodox group called God's Will filed a request with the government to force the cancellation of the tour. While the tour did happen, Cannibal Corpse only managed to play four of the eight shows, as the October 5 gig in Ufa was cancelled due to "technical reasons" and then masked police officers quickly shut down the band's October 10 gig just thirty minutes after it started.

A number of the attendees were detained and taken for mandatory drug tests, so it looks like the Russian government is not fucking around what they think might harm their kids. Sorry Russia, but your government just doesn't want Cannibal Corpse around.
