The Portland duo of Daniel Porter and Joshua Greene are set to make their label debut in early 2018. Better known as At the Heart of the World, the pair crafts a mechanized brand of heavy metal. Lazy comparisons would suggest its simply Godflesh worship. Yet, At the Heart of the World drives past mere pigeonholing. "Golden Cross" builds on a simple and almost minimalistic synth hook and Joshua Green's ferocious crossover vocals—then it layers in relentless industrial tones. Dark, sinister swaths of synthwave feel very present also. Porter's work on guitars and synthesizers brings a dense network of tones and digital groove that electrifies. It is certainly a big sound for the Oregon brace and one very worth the time investment.
