During the past months leading to the worldwide release of Nightwish’s newest album Yesterwynde on September 20th, the band shared various episodes revealing further insights into the creation of the record. Now they have shared a 45-minute documentary – directed by Ville Lipiäinen – detailing the complete inception of the album which closes off the trilogy that started with Endless Forms Most Beautiful in 2015.
The journey to Yesterwynde began long before the album’s release date, starting with early demo playback sessions that spanned continents. As Nightwish toured the world during the Human. :||: Nature. world tour, the band found themselves in hotel rooms, working on the foundational demos.
The challenges of composing on the road, in between performances and travel, didn’t slow down the band’s creative process—in fact, it became part of the album’s identity.

Surrounded by nature, away from the distractions of everyday life, Nightwish could focus on refining the intricate details of their sound. One of the standout moments in the documentary detailing the making of Yesterwynde is the stunning vocal performances by Floor Jansen. In the privacy of her home studio, Jansen poured her heart and soul into the album’s vocal tracks, contributing to the raw emotion that defines the record.
