English Instrumental Group, KYLVER, Releases A New Video For "The Great Race"

The Newcastle-upon-Tyne collective of Kylver released their second studio album, called The Island, in the fall of last year. The instrumental, prog-metal group constructed a narrative-driven epic that details the shipwreck of a crew on a hunt for a mythical island. The album was certainly captivating and it brought Kylver into the conversation of the best instrumental bands currently in metal. Some time has passed since the album's release last October. Since then, they have been releasing videos for songs from the album, including the title track finale.

The video follows a survivor of the shipwreck as he searches a town for someone to send him back to his prior life. The strange new world he unwillingly joined wreaks havoc on his mind and he cannot take it anymore. The black and white film (much like the previous video for "Hy-Brasil") adds a sense of urgency or darkness to the tale. Unfortunately for the protagonist of the video; the album's narrative alludes to the events of this track happening on an eternal loop to protect the island. Therefore giving the video a bit more of an unsettling tone. Thankfully the video still brings excitement to an already vivid album. It allows the viewer to construct their own mental imagery for The Island's story.

"The video is a kind of prequel/sequel to the video for 'Hy-Brasil'." Jonny Scott, the guitarist for Kylver said about the video. "It begins when the survivor of the shipwreck has been sent back through time from his dimensional travels, with him awakening the day before the fated voyage is to set sail. With his mind erased from past events; he makes haste in returning to his village before boarding the ship to begin his journey again."
