This week's new heavy metal releases include stuff for those that whine that I don't talk about real metal enough, some acoustic guitars (to make those people mad), and more!

To the metals…

Boris – LφVE & EVφL THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From EXHUMED, GATECREEPER, and More Out Today – 10/4

Genre: Drone/experimental
Origin: Tokyo, Japan
Label: Third Man

With the help of Jack White and his Third Man label Japanese doom/drone masters Boris are bringing you their millionth and million and first albums. LoVE and EVoL were both initially tour only releases, but now you, a stay at home nerd, can get your hands on them.

Dysrhythmia – Terminal Threshold THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From EXHUMED, GATECREEPER, and More Out Today – 10/4

Genre: Technical progressive metal
Origin: New York City, New York
Label: Translation Loss

I'm frankly surprised that this album has taken so long to arrive. Two thirds of the band moonlight in Gorguts and they have been awfully quiet since 2016, so you'd think Dysrhythmia I would've been talking about this earlier. Nope. They also haven't dropped anything since 2016. Anyway, the wait is over and it was worth it. Like everything from the band this record is a technical adventure through madness.

Sample it here

Exhumed – Horror THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From EXHUMED, GATECREEPER, and More Out Today – 10/4

Genre: Death Metal/Grindcore
Origin: San Jose, California
Label: Relapse

Horror is a twenty-six minute death metal assault. Their ninth album also includes some fun bright colors that are a nod to video games to contrast the murderous subject matter. This is the bite-sized album you need if you're in a rush, but need something evil in your ears.

Gatecreeper – Deserted THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From EXHUMED, GATECREEPER, and More Out Today – 10/4

Genre: Death metal
Origin: Phoenix, Arizona
Label: Relapse

Gatecreeper wasted no time making a name for themselves in 2016 with Sonoran Depravation. Now, they're back and they're crushing any thought that they might suffer from a sophomore slump. This will be on many end of the year lists for those that are fund of nasty, crunchy death metal.

Insomnium – Heart Like A Grave THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From EXHUMED, GATECREEPER, and More Out Today – 10/4

Genre: Melodic death metal
Origin: Joensuu, Finland
Label: Century Media

Heart Like A Grave sees Insomnium with a shiny new guitarist in Jani Liimatainen and their work cut out for them trying to follow-up the 2016 gem Winter's Gate. However, Niilo Sevänen and his gang of moody melo-death metal-ers have always been pretty consistently solid, and they keep that going here. This is another dark metal home run.

Masvidal – Human THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From EXHUMED, GATECREEPER, and More Out Today – 10/4

Genre: Acoustic/experimental
Origin: Miami, Florida
Label: Masvidalien

Earlier this year Paul Masvidal of Cynic gave us part one of his acoustic, brain wave altering Mythical Human Vessel trilogy with Mythical. Human is the second part and once again is a long way from the progressive death metal of Cynic. The little I've heard does have some more percussion than last time, but this is another one that wants to play with your mind.

Toxic Holocaust – Primal Future: 2019 THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From EXHUMED, GATECREEPER, and More Out Today – 10/4

Genre: Speed metal/thrash
Origin: Portland, Oregon
Label: eOne

Like Exhumed, Toxic Holocaust are bringing some classic imagery with their throwback sound. It's been six years since they thrash all over you (all around you? all up in you?), but they're back with the riffs and the speed and the speedy riffs you'd want from them.

William DuVall – One Alone THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From EXHUMED, GATECREEPER, and More Out Today – 10/4

Genre: Singer-songwriter
Origin: Washington, D.C.
Label: Self-release

Before joining up with Alice In Chains, William DuVall had already been living a musical life. AIC is on a bit of a break so it would make sense for DuVall to step back to that and introduce new fans to this different, and perhaps more natural side, of him. No grunge here, just a powerful voice and a guitar.
