THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From GODFLESH, ORANGE GOBLIN, and More Out Today – 10/7

Welcome to the first WEEKLY INJECTION of 2014's home stretch. This edition includes a bunch of different sounding bands from England, lots of straight-up rock business, and more! To the metals…

Alunah – Awakening the Forest 61v9IGcvYRL

Genre: Doom
Origin: West Midlands, England
Label: Napalm

Buy now on Amazon.com

This is the latest release of the great female-fronted doom band Alunah. It's difficult not to draw comparisons to Blood Ceremony and the likes, but this band has a bit more of blues influence beneath the low-tuned doom than some of those in their genre. Really cool guitar noodling here too.

Audrey Horne – Pure Heavy 61-IX4dwDRL

Genre: Heavy metal
Origin: Bergen, Norway
Label: Napalm

Buy now on Amazon.com

It amazes me every time that this band is from Norway. They sound like a band that is infused with American Southern music. The latest sounds like a more upbeat Slough Feg.

Godflesh – A World Lit Only By Fire 71evo0CZwAL._SL1500_

Genre: Industrial/experimental
Origin: Birmingham, England
Label: Avalanch

Buy now on Amazon.com

In their first album since they're reunion in 2010, Godflesh are hypnotic and lurching in the way only they can be…I'm assuming. While I'm not completely up on my Godflesh, I can say that this sounds like a dark industrial beast, and that's what fans probably want from them. Jeremy has a full review here.

Lo-Pan – Colossus 51I26syly1L

Genre: Stoner
Origin: Columbus, Ohio
Label: Small Stone

Buy now on Amazon.com

I want Lo-Pan to be a bigger band. They are a unique band in the stoner genre that gets lost among the fuzzy, blues-based chugging. Great vocals and a really cool musical approach that is traditional, yet able to stand out.

Orange Goblin – Back From The Abyss 81PVjrqJUrL._SL1500_

Genre: Stoner/heavy metal
Origin: London, England
Label: Candlelight

Buy now on Amazon.com

How to make an Orange Goblin: take one part Black Sabbath, one part Kyuss, and an English attitude. This time around they seem to be a bit more fascinated by space, so that separates this album for older ones a little.

Sixx:A.M. – Modern Vintage sixx am modern vintage

Genre: Rock
Origin: Los Angeles, California
Label: Eleven Seven

Buy now on Amazon.com

Nikki Sixx's modern rock band has a new album. Gross.

Winterfylleth – The Divination of Antiquity 439830

Genre: Black metal
Origin: Manchester, England
Label: Candlelight

Buy now on Amazon.com

Beautiful, epic black metal that has atmosphere without sounding like all those bands Deafheaven seemed to erased from time before Sunbather. The included video doesn't give this record justice. It is a great emotional black metal ride. Nicholas has a full review here.
