This week's new heavy metal releases include a double dose from Aaron Turner and pals, Prog from down under, a new release from an old favorite, and more! To the metals…

Barren Womb – Lizard Lounge THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From CALIGULA'S HORSE, OLD MAN GLOOM, and More Out Today – 5/22

Genre: Noise rock
Origin: Trondheim, Norway
Label: Loyal Blood Records

Starting this week off with fuzzy jams. This duo has a Mondo Generator vibe to them. Pretty straight-forward rock, but with lots of aggression and feedback.

Caligula's Horse – Rise RadiantTHE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From CALIGULA'S HORSE, OLD MAN GLOOM, and More Out Today – 5/22

Genre: Progressive metal
Origin: Brisbane, Australia
Label: InsideOut

One of modern prog's most underrated acts has returned with another delight of an album. You're getting soaring epics, shredding guitars, and djenty rhythms. Some versions of the album include a cover of Peter Gabriel's "Don't Give Up," which has me very curious.

Her Chariot Awaits – Her Chariot AwaitsTHE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From CALIGULA'S HORSE, OLD MAN GLOOM, and More Out Today – 5/22

Genre: Hard rock
Origin: Barcelona, Spain/Staten Island, New York
Label: Frontiers

Mike Orlando (Adrenaline Mob) and Ailyn's (ex-Sirenia) new band feels like the perfect blend of the masterminds behind it. Like Adrenaline Mob, you're getting some high energy hard rock with progressive moments, and like Sirenia, you're getting grand, catchy vocals. Fans of both bands will probably dig this.

Killitorous – The AfterpartyTHE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From CALIGULA'S HORSE, OLD MAN GLOOM, and More Out Today – 5/22

Genre: Technical death metal
Origin: Ottawa, Ontario
Label: Tentacles Industries

It's been six years since this technical supergroup has shredded your eardrums, and on their second album they brought more pals along. The band is already made of members of Annihilator, Suffocation, and others, but this time they have diverse guests spots from Raphael Weinroth-Browne (Leprous), Riley McShane (Allegaeon), Chewy (Voivod), and A LOT more. This album is a hell of a party full of twists and turns.

Old Man Gloom – Seminar VIII: Light Of Meaning THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From CALIGULA'S HORSE, OLD MAN GLOOM, and More Out Today – 5/22

Genre: Sludge
Origin: Santa Fe, New Mexico
Label: Profound Lore

Old Man Gloom are no stranger to the unorthodox. In 2014 they released two different albums with the same name to mess with reviewers. Then this year they are once again releasing two albums. One of which (noted below) was released the day it was announced. Today, however, sees the official release of Seminar VIII: Light Of Meaning, which is another noisy, sludgy masterpiece from Aaron Turner's collective. Like, Seminar IX, this includes some of the final performances of fallen bassist Caleb Scofield, but performances from Stephen Brodsky who stepped into his friend's shoes.

Old Man Gloom – Seminar IX: Darkness Of Being THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From CALIGULA'S HORSE, OLD MAN GLOOM, and More Out Today – 5/22

Genre: Sludge
Origin: Santa Fe, New Mexico
Label: Profound Lore

Today is the physical release of Seminar IX, so I decided gave an nod to it since I missed it when it was released/announced.

The Weapon – A Repugnant Turn Of Events THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From CALIGULA'S HORSE, OLD MAN GLOOM, and More Out Today – 5/22

Genre: Hardcore
Origin: New York, New York
Label: Self-released

Jesse Leech from Killswitch Engage is not a man that relaxes apparently. This year alone, he has released an EP of songs with Killswitch Engage, ambient music with The Way Back Within, and now a hardcore punk album with The Weapon. This is nine tracks of short, aggressive bursts that rage against oppression and tyranny. Jesse is adding another solid bit of experience to his already lengthy and impressive resume.
