There is no doubt about the next statement I am going to make: Mariah Carey is not metal. We can all agree on that. But, in the midst of promoting her new book, the pop queen made an interesting revelation – she was secretly recording an alternative rock album in the mid-90s during the sessions for her Daydream album.

Carey revealed the tidbit while promoting her new memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey. She wrote on Twitter, "Fun fact: I did an alternative album while I was making Daydream ? Just for laughs, but it got me through some dark days."

She explains in the book that the goal was just to do something different than what her mainstream persona was: “I was playing with the style of the breezy-grunge, punk-light white female singers who were popular at the time. You know the ones who seemed to be so carefree with their feelings and their image. They could be angry, angsty, and messy, with old shoes, wrinkled slips, and unruly eyebrows, while every movie I made was so calculated and manicured. I wanted to break free, let loose, and express my misery — but I also wanted to laugh. totally looked forward to doing my alter-ego band sessions after Daydream each night.”

Based on a short snippet Mariah provided, and shouting out a friend named "Clarissa," who Mariah said performed the lead vocals with Mariah "as a hidden layer," the internet deduced that she was talking to Clarissa's band Chick, a relatively obscure mid-90s band.

A few longtime Beavis & Butthead fans noted that one of Chick's songs were reviewed by the metal duo, although we can't find that footage. Fans are hoping Mariah can one day release the songs.
