JUDAS PRIEST, SOUNDGARDEN, MOTORHEAD Among Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2020 Nominees

A very rock-themed list this year.

Another year of Rock Hall nominees, and another year to set up for disappointment. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame have announced the nominees for their 2020 class. It should be noted, these are the nominees and now there will be a vote to determine who actually gets in.

Among this year's nominees is Judas Priest, who got a ton of love last year but just missed the cut. I have a feeling this might be their year. Should they get inducted, current members Rob Halford, Ian Hill, Glenn Tipton and Scott Travis would be included along with K.K. Downing, Les Binks and late drummer Dave Holland.

A sure bet seems to be Soundgarden, who are nominated for the first time. The late Chris Cornell would be inducted with Kim Thayil, Matt Cameron, Ben Shepherd and former Soundgarden member Hiro Yamamoto.

Motorhead are also nominated for the first time, with the famous lineup of Lemmy Kilmister, "Fast" Eddie Clarke and Phil "Philthy Animal" Taylor.

Nine Inch Nails return to the nominees pool for the first time since 2016, as does the underrated MC5. How is the MC5 not in yet?

Other nominees this year include:

  • Depeche Mode
  • Kraftwerk
  • Rufus featuring Chaka Khan
  • Dave Matthews Band
  • The Doobie Brothers
  • the Notorious B.I.G.
  • Pat Benatar
  • Thin Lizzy
  • Whitney Houston
  • Producer Todd Rundgren

In order to be eligible for nomination, an artist must have released their first commercial recording 25 years prior to the year of nomination.

The final class of 2020 will be announced in January with the induction ceremony taking place at the Rock Hall on May 2nd.

Fans are encouraged to participate in a fan vote, running now until January 10th. The top five vote getters will count as an official fan ballot that will be tallied with other members of the voting body including artists and historians. Vote at rockhall.com.
