It’s Monday and Mondays suck, so let’s grind it out with Herida Profunda.

Who’s feeling punk this week? We’re coming up on Thanksgiving here in the states and I know this is a grandiose opportunity to pelt your least favorite family member with steaming-hot mashed potatoes, argue politics, and watch a bunch of hulking brutes chase a brown ball. I’m ready for a circle pit, how about you?

The Polish/U.K. crusty grinders have been throwing punches since their formation in 2012. With a full-length, two split EPs and a third coming up in December, this seems like a good time to get acquainted with the band. Their previous splits include bands that share the letters h,e,l,b,a,s,t,r,d. One (mighty) Hellbastard and another Hello Bastards. However, today we’re going to be focusing on their first 2013 full-length.

Seeing the beginning of any band is obviously a great way to trace their evolution, and Herida Profunda are no different. Their self-titled full-length is actually quite the accomplishment for a first album. It’s not just a bunch of blasts layered on blasts trying to make as much noise as possible. The first track is extremely somber and ambient. It’s a slow build into the album that does a great job of drawing the listener in. Those that just wanna rage might skip to track two but I think this thing gets nice and harrowing.

Following this Herida Profunda get things sounding real crusty and punk real fast. “Spalone Mosty” is pure circle pit glory. The track is as punk as they come and gorgeously filthy. It’s catchy and old school right up until its end. Then comes in “Zamach Bombowy”, a total grinder of a track. The thing starts out blasting real hard and keeps the momentum for a good chunk of the track. Even when it breaks down, it's still hitting like a locomotive.

Herida Profunda isn’t just about the punk, crust and grind. They’ve also got plenty of grooves to work into the mix. “Strach” kicks in with a funky bassline and keeps things rolling with a slower, groovier punk vibe. It’s incredibly catchy, like hummable catchy. In fact, there’s plenty of moments like this on the record. The hardcore/punk driven “Paraliż” is another track that’s got plenty of punch and groove to it.

This is a band that has real personality. The writing is beyond the blast and brutalize schematic that is often featured in this column. Herida Profunda put a lot of effort into their songwriting and weave crust and grind into hardcore/punk. Songs take unexpected turns and are in general really, really easy to get stuck in one’s head. Get grinding on this!

So, they have an incredibly strong start, and current releases are going just as good. What’s in the future for the band? Well, a three-way split with Psychoneurosis (Poland) and Suffering Quota (Holland) is on its way. There will be a vinyl version of a B-side etching. A premiere of music from that can be found on HeavyBlogIsHeavy.

There will also be a tape version of the Hellbastard split released in Europe and Asia. Tempang will release 100 black, hand-numbered tapes (pics here). 783punx will also release 100 hand-numbered tapes with special full coverage on the body with a white shell and j-card with three additional panels that include lyrics and info (pics here).
