Vintage Vinyl, the best vinyl shop in New Jersey, and arguably one of the best on the East Coast, has announced its closure on July 31st.

Founder Rob Roth told NJ.com that “It’s time to retire. lived the dream. It’s more than I could’ve dreamed. This will be my legacy.” He said the pandemic was not the deciding factor in closing the shop, although it did put his "life into perspective."

The store has been the go-to place for heavy metal and rock in the area since 1984, with countless signings and performances in the massive storefront.

Roth opened the store when he was just 23-years-old, because he just wasn't able to get the type of music he wanted at the time. “It was the era of punk and you couldn’t get those records anywhere. I wanted to fill that void and bring the obscure, selling the punk and British records, and the stuff that was being ignored.”

Roth, who is now 65 added “Thanks for 42 wonderful years, it’s been a great ride.”
