MEGADETH's Dave Mustaine: "I Had Faith I Was Going To Be Healed" From Cancer

"I don’t want to sound arrogant, but I expected it."

Megadeth vocalist and guitarist Dave Mustaine was diagnosed with throat cancer in June 2019 and was officially cleared of the disease in October the same year. Mustaine recently sat down with Metal Hammer to discuss treatment and being declared cancer-free, the latter of which he said he always knew was coming.

He said: “I was here in Nashville at my doctor’s office. He had to reach down the back of my throat, which was really unpleasant, but it was important for him to feel and make sure.

“He said my progress was amazing, that both sides felt the same. I’ve got a metal plate in my neck that I figured might cause problems, but the doc told me, ‘Dave, you are in perfect health, 100%. You’re free to go.'”

Mustaine added: “It sounds bizarre, but I kind of knew. I took good care of myself. I’d done everything my doctors told me to do. I had tons of support from family and friends. And I had lots of prayer.

“I don’t want to sound arrogant, but I expected it. I had faith that I was going to be healed.”

Megadeth is (so far) planning on releasing a new album this year. The new Megadeth record is the band's first since 2016, and the first with guitarist Kiko Loureiro (ex-Angra) and drummer Dirk Verbeuren (Tronos, Cadaver, ex-Soilwork). The duo replaced guitarist Chris Broderick and drummer Shawn Drover, both of whom left the band in 2014.

Megadeth is also helping you get through the COVID-19 pandemic with a killer playlist featuring classic artists like Exodus, Cryptic Slaughter, and Kreator, as well as newer faces like Power Trip, Iron Reagan, and Midnight.
