As the year is comes to a close, we will be taking you through the Best of 2010. Over the next couple of days, expect top 10 album lists from most of our writers, as well as the top stories & videos of the year. We will now take you through the funniest viral clips of the year. The order was determined by the amount of hits the videos received, the shareability as well as the overall hilarity of the clip. Here we go:
1) Betty White Goes Death Metal
Without a doubt, this was #1, both in views and "horns up." The clip, which originally aired on the Mother's Day episode of Saturday Night Live featured the entire cast signing the theme of The Golden Girls to Betty and her reciprocating with a crushing death metal cover. Everybody loves Betty White, even metalheads!
2) Black Metal Babysitting
Who says you can't listen to black metal and have fun with your young daughter at the same time? One proud papa spent a whole day building a church out of popsicle sticks and then burning it to the ground. The final shot in this clip is absolutely priceless.
3) Slayer Christmas Show
A late entry into the metalsphere, but an instant classic if there ever was one. One California resident combined his love of Slayer with his love of Christmas light shows into the most epic seizure enducing spectacle I have ever seen. I don't know if I'd want this dude to be my neighbor, but I'd love it if he lived down the block. It was a tough decision between this clip and Slayer Goes To Church.
4) Bed Intruder Death Metal Version
Well, obviously, we have another hit on our hands. Mashup master Andy Rehfeldt delivered another great video, this time making a parody of a parody. Funny video, with some great riffs behind them. Rehfeldt is the man. I highly recommend checking out some of his other work.
5) The Muppets Cover Dying Fetus
Metal has a long history of combining footage from children's programs with the most brootal tracks metal has to offer. The problem is most of the time it's done kind of poorly. This was not one of those times, as whoever created this hit the nail on the head. Watch the video and I dare you not to laugh. Ms. Piggy steals the show here.
6) Cookie Monster Discusses Influence on Death Metal
There was no cooler honor for me this year than getting to speak with the biggest influence for modern-day death metal, Cookie Monster. Cookie revealed how he feels about everybody biting his style, as well as his favorite metal band. After the shoot, we went to the back and snorted some Chips Ahoy.
7) Kirk Kicks Baby
It's very rare that we in the metal scene get our own little viral video, so when video footage of Kirk Hammett accidentally kicking a ball into a young girl surfaced online, I took it upon myself to edit the video that everybody was waiting for – a video with the clip on loop over and over with silly sound effects. Don't worry, the kid is ok.
8) Misha vs. Misha
Metal Misha has been away for a while, as he explains in the video, but in his absence he feels threatened that there is a new Misha in town and decided to confront the guitarist of Periphery. How did Mansoor talk his way out of this? Pretty cheaply, if you ask me.
9) Teen Wolves
Kids today! I seriously don't get this whole teen werewolf thing, or these crazy tails. I have been seeing them everywhere. Thankfully, this news report explains the crazy phenomenon.
10) Guitar Swing Fail
Stage presence is very important. Also important: knowing how to properly swing a guitar, and making sure there is nobody in close proximity. Who does that dude think he is, Ben Weinman of the Dillinger Escape Plan?
And that's our list of the best funny heavy metal videos of 2010. Keep up with all the funnies in our br00tal Comedy channel.
