If it were up to Danny Carey, there's no way it's taking 13 years for Tool fans to hear their next album. While fans are still digesting the best-selling Fear Inoculum, Danny is already itching to get behind the kit in the studio for a new album.
When talking to Metal Hammer, Danny was asked what the future holds for the group and he said exactly what Tool fans wanted to hear:
"My hope is we get in and knock out another record," he said. "We have tons of material. It's not going to take 12 years, or if it does, I'll probably be so old I probably can't pick up my sticks any more! But my hope is we'll do another record and just keep moving forward."
"There are no leftover Tool songs because of the process it takes to compose our songs," Carey clarified. "The way we hash it out in a room with all three or four of us, that there's tons of riffs and jams and things. But there's no put-together songs that are sitting in the eaves.
"It'll take a process of doing it. And if we do do another album, it'll take three years after touring. That's just the way it is with our band."
It's safe to say that Tool will spend at least a year touring off this record, so I can't even imagine them thinking about heading into the studio until late 2020, early 2021. But at least we know that we won't have to wait until 2032 for a new Tool album.
Or will we?
Meanwhile, Tool have a sold out fall tour scheduled. You can get tickets here.
