A new System Of A Down record seems to have been somewhat in the works over the past few years, though it seems increasingly unlikely it'll ever surface. Vocalist Serj Tankian says the band's members "haven’t been able to see eye to eye", guitarist Daron Malakian said Tankian didn't even want to do the 2005 albums Mezmerize and Hypnotize, and bassist Shavo Odadjian seems to think it'll all still come together.
It's also worth noting that Malakian has said that the new Scars On Broadway album could've very well been new System Of A Down, but too much time was going by and he wanted to use the material for something.
Now in a new interview with Consequence Of Sound, Malakian says that everyone in the band is cool with one another as friends, but echoes Tankian's sentiments about not seeing eye-to-eye with other members.
"There was a time that I was waiting and rooting for it and hoping it happens, but… I'm kinda really happy with what I'm doing with Scars [On Broadway]. We all get along as friends in System Of A Down. So as friends, everything is cool and I have no problems with anybody. But then as band members, we tend to have different ways of wanting to do things. And it doesn't seem like we meet eye-to-eye as band members. So, I never say never, because you never know what happens. But at the same time, I don't see that happening anytime soon that we're all going to get together and make a new System Of A Down album."
System Of A Down reunited in 2010, making the fabled new album what might end up being the new long-running joke in metal now that Tool is releasing a new one this year.
