You may remember in May 2017 that Symphony X vocalist Russel Allen said the band had no plans to do a new album or tour anytime soon. The band upheld that assertion throughout 2017 by doing no touring and releasing no music, though bassist Mike LePond says the group will reconvene next month or so to start writing new songs. Which is great news, considering Allen's statement ended with the ominous "There's no future plans for Symphony X at this time."
"In 2017, Symphony X did not perform. Michael Romeo was working on a solo album, which he's finishing up now. And Russell, he was doing work with his side band, the Adrenaline Mob, and now I think he probably just finished his tour with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. So, basically, it's looking like probably sometime next month we're going to get together and start writing songs again. And hopefully we'll have something new available either by the end of this year or early next year."
Here's hoping it's something sprawling and massive like The Odyssey, though something heavy like Iconoclast would be equally awesome… or both!
