Are SLIPKNOT Working With Ross Robinson On Their New Album?

Slipknot are bringing back the heavy.

Slipknot are bringing back the heavy.

As the year comes to a close (holy crap it's almost October), expect more and more news about Slipknot to start surfacing. Frontman Corey Taylor recently revealed he's begun the lyrics for the band's new album due out in 2019. In past interviews, Clown noted there are  27 new song ideas floating and as of the the last November, Clown claimed the band have seven or eight songs completed, although this summer Taylor noted they are up to 16. Taylor noted in a few interviews that fans could expect the heaviness of Iowa.

And who happened to produce Iowa? That would be Ross Robinson, who also worked on the band's debut and helped shape their heavy sound. Now fans are speculating Robinson may be back in the fold for album number six.

Here's why fans are assuming Ross Robinson is involved. Slipknot's new(ish) bassist Alessandro Venturella was spotted by fans in Robinson's studio. Loudwire notes Venturella shared an Instagram story that featured Robinson's dog Carl, and they are clearly in a studio setting:

That was posted after Venturella noted he was leaving for Los Angeles, where Robinson lives.

Adding fuel to the fire is this tweet from Robinson noting he wants to resurrect his old imprint label:

At the moment, there is no confirmation from Slipknot, Robinson or the band's label. We'll keep you posted with updates, or hit that AlertMe button below to get notifications on this story.

Speaking to Kerrang! this past summer, Taylor gave an update on the sound of the album and where the whole band is with the progress:

"It's only in the demo stages right now. However, we have very serious, tentative plans — and I say that because the best way to make God laugh is to announce your plans out loud — to go into the studio at the beginning of next year and get this fucker going. We have 16 songs written right now, and they are fucking dangerous.

"I loved .5, but this album, to me, makes .5 look like nobody's business. This is Iowa levels of heavy. And I have to go out and tour this shit at my age — I can feel those songs in my back! I am really, really excited about it, and I talk to the guys in Slipknot all the time. I talk to Clown either every day, or every other day. I've been talking to Jim, V-man, Jay, Mick, Craig, Chris, Sid. We're all really, really, really excited about this stuff, and it's coming together really fucking well. So be prepared for 2019 — which, weirdly, is the 20th anniversary of our first album. Shit's about to get fucking real again! So take that as you will."
