Ailing AC/DC Guitarist Malcolm Young Rumored To Be Replaced By Nephew

Younger Young to take over second Young spot in guitar duo. Maybe.

Younger Young to take over second Young spot in guitar duo. Maybe.

It's no secret that founding AC/DC rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young is currently too ill to play with the band and that the band are planning to be in the studio very soon. This stirred up a lot of questions among fans, mainly who the hell was going to play on the record in lieu of Malcolm Young? Would lead guitarist Angus Young just do everything? More importantly, did Malcolm have any say in the writing process of the record? While it's not clear on the writing, Ultimate Classic Rock seems to think Malcolm's nephew, Stevie Young is taking over his uncle's position in the studio.

"[Twitter user] Jeff Lorenz posted a photograph to Twitter, saying it was taken earlier this week in the city. Another user, Mike Pattonen, responded, 'Ok so there we have it. Welcome #StevieYoung to @AC_DC – all the best guys, do it for Mal! … That guy on the right is #StevieYoung – he filled in for Mal in 1988 and it seems like he is back. Welcome Stevie!” (The photo has since been removed.)'"

No word on why the tweet was taken down. Maybe the band requested he drop it until they can formally announce the addition, or maybe Lorenz and Pattonen realized they were wrong. It would make sense if Stevie stepped in considering he toured with the band for a little while in 1988 while his uncle dealt with alcohol addiction (video of that below). Plus I'd imagine Stevie grew up on the band's music, knows the guys and all that, so maybe this is a natural progression. Again, who knows how much of this is true- it just makes sense it would be is all.
