Good news for my fellow head banging Gothamites! This summer New York City's getting a brand new music fest that's geared to fans of filthy death metal and grindcore. Thanks to Useless Christ Records, the people responsible for New Jersey Deathfest and Philthadelphia Deathfest, the Big Apple will soon be overrun by 30 underground death metal and grindcore bands who'll spend 2 whole days decimating your eardrums.
The inaugural NY Deathfest is going to be held at two separate venues in Brooklyn over two days in August. But don't worry about commuting between the two locations; all the bands performing Saturday August 4th are playing at Saint Vitus and all the bands performing Sunday August 5th will be at The Paper Box. No traveling or schedule overlaps means no missing out on a band's set.
There are some great acts lined up, too. Saturday, Chicago's legendary murder metal horde, Macabre and California crusty grindpunks, Phobia are both playing. And Sunday, Cephalic Carnage, Derketa, and Bloodfeast are on the same bill together. Aside from these more well know acts, there's still a formidable rogue's gallery of scummy underground metal bands for attendees to get wasted and bang their heads to as well.
And did I mention this fest is ridiculously affordable? A Saturday pass is only $25 and A Sunday pass is $35. Or you could get a 2-day pass for a paltry $50. If you drop an extra $10 on the weekend pass, you get a NY Deathfest shirt to boot. Thirty bands and a t-shirt for $60 is a great deal considering you'd easily spend that much on a single ticket to watch Slayer lazily exploit their former glory for fifty minutes.
