It happened! Metallica can officially say they have played every continent in the world. On Sunday, December 8th, fans from Latin American countries were ferried to Antarctica to experience the most metal concert in that barren dessertland… #FreezeEmAll by Metallica.
Update: You can now watch the band's full set right here.
The band posted a slew of official photos on their Facebook page with the following message about the concert revealing the setlist:
This was the most unique show Metallica has ever done. The band, contest winners, research station scientists (from Russia, South Korea, China, Poland, Chile, Brazil and Germany), and the ship crew, all crammed in this little dome out on the helipad of Carlini Station in ANTARCTICA! The energy in the little dome was amazing! Words can not describe how happy everyone was.
The band cranked out 10 songs for the small crowd including Creeping Death, For Whom the Bell Tolls, Sad But True, Welcome Home (Sanitarium), Master of Puppets, One, Blackened, Nothing Else Matters, Enter Sandman, and Seek & Destroy.
No word on if there were any penguins were attendance. #FreezeEmAll
How did they not play the obvious "Trapped Under Ice?" Maybe they're superstitious!
As you can see by the photos below, there were no amps. As our sister site, Gear Gods explains, using solar power would not be able to power all those amps, plus they would've most likely blown their dome up. The band cleared AxeFX's entire stock to make the event possible, with fans listening via headphones while the band crushed it. Checking out the pictures, this definitely looked like a once-in-a-lifetime experience:
