Song Premiere: MALEVICH Crush Heads And Ears With "Useless Talent, Promised Greatness"

Fusing crust, grind, sludge and noise, the Malevich's music is like a clenched, shaking hand around one’s throat.

The seasons are in swing, the equinox has just eclipsed us, so it’s time to bring in some grimmer tunes to match the season. After all, Halloween is only just around the corner and after that some bleaker landscapes await. And what better way to ring it in than with some new Malevich.

The Atlanta, GA four-piece has been raining down some ugly tunes since their 2016 debut. Fusing crust, grind, sludge and noise, the band’s music is like a clenched, shaking hand around one’s throat. Their latest upcoming onslaught Our Hollow (out Oct. 25th) adds an additional voice and guitar. So, a triple attack on the vocals, and second ax. You might have caught a first glimpse of the record via CVLT Nation (and if you haven’t, you should check that out too). We’re here with a longer slice of pain.

Song Premiere: MALEVICH Crush Heads And Ears With "Useless Talent, Promised Greatness"

“Useless Talent, Promised Greatness” isn’t a track that bursts out at you. It’s not immediate in its method of how it wants to claw away your skin. But, oh, will it get there. No, the song opts for near silence to open. There’s a faint melody in the background that’s creeping ever so slowly towards the listener. And then the bass slowly creeps in sounding almost piano-like and played in some distant, crumbling underpass. The grimness is evident. And then Malevich pounce.

The track becomes a frenzy of blackened grindcore that descends like a hungry bear. It blasts, and then the bass takes a moment again like it’s all about to pass. But it doesn’t and Malevich comes back, still swinging. The song progresses into a sludgier offering. Things stay thick and blackened as the ugliness mounts. It sounds like Malevich is channeling some Fister for the remainder of the song. It’s like tar and it’s crushing.

This is only a taste of things to come. Get grinding on this and be on the lookout for Malevich. Any doom, sludge or grind fans are going to want to be in on this album when it comes out. Be watching.
