Say what you will about Limp Bizkit, but guitarist Wes Borland is a genuinely talented and unique musician. Dude's got Big Dumb Face, Black Light Burns, his solo stuff, plus whatever else we're hoping he cooks up. Being in a rock/metal band and having bands that are generally heavier, you'd think Borland at least sort of keeps up with metal in 2017… but he doesn't at all.
Borland tells Metal Hammer that he loves bands like Gorgoroth, Death, and Watain, but really isn't into newer metal. He also says "metal takes itself so fucking seriously and that’s just so dumb," which is true – y'all need to lighten up a bit.
"No, I'm not interested at all. I like Gorgoroth and black metal, and I don’t think anyone has taken it in a place that I want to see it go beyond where Death and Carcass had it in the '90s.
"It's just boring to me. Every time I hear a new metal band, I'm just like, 'No, thanks.' I try to do the opposite of whatever is going on in metal, because metal takes itself so fucking seriously and that’s just so dumb. Unless you're Gaahl, don't try. Or Watain – I like Watain a lot!"
This quote also makes me want a Wes Borland black metal project. How cool would that be? Borland, Gaahl, and maybe like Sean Reinert or something to round out a completely random trio that has potential to be interesting.
