You read that right. Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst is planning on moving to Crimea, the Ukrainian region annexed by Russian in 2014, to make television shows and films. According to Billboard, Crimean officials are trying to get Western celebrities out there in order to essentially make the region more attractive.
Last month, Sergey Aksyonov, head of Crimea, published an open letter, in which he promised to turn the Black Sea peninsular region into "the new Beverly Hills." Later, mayors of the resort towns Yevpatoria, Feodosiya and Yalta spoke about granting land to build a compound for Western celebrities, who would obtain free housing as long as they took part in the region's international promotion.
According to Izvestia, Durst sent a letter to Crimean authorities, in which he said that he was interested in spending half of the year in the region, producing films and TV series that would take Russia to a new level in the industry, also working for a "great future of Crimea and Russia."
I know you're probably expecting me to hate on Durst and all that here, but I say good on him. He's doing what makes him happy, or at least following what he believes in, so what's to make fun of here?
I think it's a little funny that everyone in Bizkit seems to be getting into television now, what with Wes Borland doing a home improvement show as well. Though Durst did do those eHarmony commercials recently-ish as well…
