It's Official: SLIPKNOT's We Are Not Your Kind Is The #1 Album in On The U.S. Charts

The first hard rock album to achieve the feat since 2017.

Slipknot 2019

Billboard has called it – something that has been expected as early as mid-week last week. Slipknot has the number one album in the country.

Nielsen Music reports the album sold a total of 118,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Aug. 15. An impressive 102,000 were in album sales.

I'll allow Billboard to explain how the equivalent units are determined:

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units. Units are comprised of traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new Aug. 24-dated chart, where We Are Not Your Kind enters at No. 1, will be posted in full on Billboard's websites on Aug. 20.

It's very impressive how much pure sales the band did, considering how big streaming is. It proves that streaming has not transferred over as much to metal. Slipknot's last album, .5: The Gray Chapter sold 132,000 copies in 2014, for comparison.

It's the first hard rock or heavy metal album to top the charts since 2017, when Foo Fighters released Concrete and Gold which moved 127,000 units in 2017.

We Are Not Your Kind is the band's first number one album since 2014's .5: The Gray Chapter. Before that 2008's All Hope Is Gone also hit number 1. Overall, it's the band's fifth top 10 debut. Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses) debuted at number two in 2004 and Iowa at number three in 2001.

Rappers Rick Ross and Trippie Redd filled out the top three.

This follows the news that the album is #1 in the UK as well.

Congrats to Slipknot. You can see them on the road right now with Volbeat, Gojira and Behemoth.
