Devin Townsend is currently working on four new albums, any of which may signal a departure from his usual The Devin Townsend Project sound, or dump the name all together. Townsend hasn't exactly made his intentions for the shift clear, though at this point he doesn't really need to – it's all about whatever we end up hearing next!
Now in an interview with Tone Deaf, Townsend drops a hint that the stuff he's looking forward to most right now may be on par with Strapping Young Lad-levels of heaviness, which would be incredible.
"The leash that I've been on since I quit Strapping – especially with having kids – has been so short that there's a part of me right now that's really looking forward to losing control. But my hope is that when I do, it will be from a place where I've learned what works for me and what doesn't, rather than self-destruction."
It'll be incredibly interesting to hear Townsend revisit that level of heaviness, if he does at all, considering how long it's been since he's done music like that, and considering how vastly different his life is no compared to then.
