Is ATHEIST's Next Album Going To Be Its Last?

The age of atheism might be over for Shaefer and the guys.

The age of atheism might be over for Shaefer and the guys.

Atheist has been bringing its particular brand of disjointed progressive metal since 1988. The band broke up in 1994 and then got back together in 2006, which eventually led to a comeback record in 2010 called Jupiter. Now, according to the Facebook page of Kelly Shaefer, there's going to be a new record next year!

I get asked quite a lot about what is going on w the band, so… the good news is….Atheist will be back w Myself, Steve Flynn, Tony Choy, Chris Martin, and Jason Holloway, next year w a brand new record, ,and tour dates..

Cannot wait to come back to Europe, and bring some new songs, and play for you all once again! ‪#‎Atheist2016‬

We signed with Extreme Management Group in NY, and are excited to have them, as well Season of Mist by our side for this new record, Thank you so much for your endless support of Atheist – The Official Page and turning it onto others.‪#‎metalsinceforever‬ CHEERS !

Fucking awesome! New Atheist! Though according to Shaefer in an interview with Worship Metal in September, the next album is the last one.

“Oh yes lots of good things going on. We are currently working on what will prob be our last studio record, it’s gonna be a rager!”

That got followed up with a comment as well on the band's Facebook page.

I mean, the band's discography has been flawless up to this point and I can't imagine the final Atheist record is going to tarnish that reputation. As a fan, I hope we get a few more, but if this has got to be it and Shaefer knows it, then I'm curious to see what he wants the band's epitaph to be.
