Guitarist Jack Owen and vocalist Chris Barnes were two of the five founding members of Cannibal Corpse in 1988. Barnes left the group in 1995 and has been the frontman of his own Six Feet Under project ever since, and Owen departed Cannibal Corpse in 2004 to join Deicide, a position he held until 2016.
Now in 2017, we've got the closest thing we've got to an original Cannibal Corpse lineup in Six Feet Under, which now consists of both Barnes and Owen.
"As you all know, Jack and I started off together helping form one of the greatest Death Metal bands of all time. Jack and I began talking a few months ago, after his departure from his previous band about joining forces.
"From my side of things, it’s going to be amazing to work with Jack again!! We had some intense adventures, to say the least hahaha…and it’s gonna be killer to step on stage with Jack for the first time in over 22 years!!
"Jack will be joining SFU for the entire cycle of touring for the new album and beyond!"
While this is exciting, where has guitarist Ray Suhy been in all this? Is Owen meant to replace Suhy? Bassist Jeff Hughell played both guitar and bass on Torment, so unless Suhy is just going to be Owen's guitar counterpart live, maybe this just a quiet replacement?
Either way, it'll be interesting to see how this all works out, and what the next Six Feet Under album sounds like!
