Corey Taylor Thinks METALLICA "Shouldn't Have Been Disrespected" At The GRAMMYs

The Slipknot frontman has some strong words for the GRAMMYs.

The Slipknot frontman has some strong words for the GRAMMYs.

Corey Taylor is not a man who has a respect for the GRAMMYs. Last year, when Slipknot were nominated, Taylor made his feelings on the award show clear:

"[I]f it were just about the music, you would see more metal bands — not including us — nominated in other categories, like 'Album Of The Year' [and] all of these different categories, and you just don't. So it's all a goddamn popularity contest, and I don't have fucking time for that shit, to be honest."

So, you can probably guess how he felt about the entire Metallica mix-up at the GRAMMYs two weeks ago. If you missed it, Metallica were set to perform with Lady Gaga, but James Hetfield's mic was not turned on at the beginning of the performance. The GRAMMY producers apologized to the band, blaming the error on a mic cable being pulled accidentally, moments before showtime. Taylor was a guest on the ETC. Podcast and said that the GRAMMYs disrespected the band:

“I feel bad for Metallica. Honestly, because at this point in their career they shouldn’t have been disrespected like that. They shut it off. [Metallica frontman James Hetfield’s microphone] Metallica doesn’t have control of that.” Taylor said.

He continued: “The thing that people have to remember. I’m gonna give you a little background. All of Metallica’s people are not allowed to work on live performances on television. None of us are. They have a sound producer and a whole crew of people who work on those shows and then your people work right behind them but you’re not allowed to touch anything which is horse shit — because stuff like this then happens.”

Taylor also took the GRAMMYs to task for not introducing the band, although this was clearly a mistake on the part of actress Laverne Cox, who got so excited during the introduction, she misread her cue. She also apologized.

“The fact that then they weren’t introduced. It was just oh here’s Lady Gaga… Oh by the way… she’s fucking with Metallica you dick. Like, I have a lot of very strong opinions about the Grammys anyway. That really cemented it for me. We don’t need your respect. We don’t need you to make us feel like we accomplished something. Because all you do is open our mouths and shit in it… and I’m tired of tastin’ it — so fuck you, dude.”

It's understandable for a man of Taylor's stature to be fed up with the GRAMMYs, after years of dealing with the outfit. As I've mentioned before, I think this was just a string of bad luck. Why would the GRAMMYs intentionally sabotage a performance on their own big show? It just makes them look bad. If they didn't want metal on the show, they wouldn't have invited Metallica in the first place.

At least we know what Corey Taylor thinks, though. Watch the full interview below:
