Science really isn't sure if Lemmy had an actual skeleton, or if it was just a bunch of solidified amphetamines buildup over the years held together with Jack Daniels residue. Put simply, Lemmy knew how to party. We've already heard an amazing tour story from Anvil of sharing the road (and drugs) with Lemmy.
Now, Black Stone Cherry want to jump on the "I was offered drugs by Motorhead train." Bassist Jon Lawhon recounts the tour in a recent interview with Rocksverige. (emphasis ours)
"We did meet Lemmy and spoke with him and the funniest thing from the whole tour was that all of them would offer us whisky and coke every day. Not [Coca-Cola], but cocaine. We were, like, ‘We can get down with the whisky, but with the cocaine, we’re all right.’ But it was every day that they would offer it to us, and every day we told them, and got the same speech every day: ‘Can’t believe you’re in rock and roll and don’t do cocaine.’ And we were just, like, ‘We just talked about this yesterday.’ [Laughs] They just didn’t realize they had just said the same thing to us the day before. [Laughs]
“Everything you imagined Lemmy to be and Motörhead to be, they were. He called you a jackass in a heartbeat. [Laughs] He didn’t care and he had no remorse whatsoever. We tried to be as PC as possible, but we eventually got tired of that. [Laughs]”
Lemmy famously was not a fan of cocaine, preferring speed as his upper of choice, so the story is questionable. Of course, when people called out Black Stone Cherry, they claimed the media took their quote out of context. I mean, it's right up there. What context is missing?
What do they mean by "say lightly?" Is that their way of implying they exaggerated, or even, lied about the situation? Well, according to Motorhead, they certainly did. The band issued a statement saying the anecdote is 100% false and they want an apology:
