DISTURBED's David Draiman Wants To Sing The National Anthem At Super Bowl 2020

The NFL Super Bowl not featuring any rock or metal artists has been a pretty big point of contention in the rock and metal communities over the years. Despite the Super Bowl just being a big ol' advertisement for everything under the sun and featuring pop music likely to attempt to draw a younger crowd, the absence of heaviness really pisses some people off. Though if pop music prevailing means we get more famous metal musicians dumping on Maroon 5 on Twitter, that's a pretty fair tradeoff.

Disturbed vocalist David Draiman doesn't seem to want Disturbed to play the show. Instead, he tells Loudwire he wants to sing the National Anthem prior.

“I’ve dreamt of doing it my entire life. Been rehearsing it since I was a little boy. I love my country, and I would be honored beyond words to have the opportunity to try and inspire, strengthen, and give hope, at a time when we need those things more than ever. Plus…it would be nice to have rock represented on SOME level at the Super Bowl, and to prove to everyone that there ARE rock singers out there who can do the anthem as much justice as ANY pop artists out there, and even possibly take it higher.”

Draiman is currently asking fans to vote in a Billboard poll about the subject. As long as we don't have to hear that Disturbed cover of "The Sound Of Silence" at the game, then I'm fine with Draiman doing whatever he wants. Seriously, remember when we couldn't escape hearing that damn cover?
