It's been a few months since we've checked in on Deftones bassist Chi Cheng. Cheng was involved in a horrific car accident left him paralyzed and in a coma for almost four years. Recently, he's shown signs of improvement, as his family has checked him out of the hospital and he is under their care at their home.
Chi's family checked in with a new update on his progress.
Chi is currently bed-ridden but responsive and able to move his legs and sometimes his arms, on command.
The family recently had to go through a move, as their family home was sold due to some legal issues stemming from Chi's father passing away recently. The family are currently in a rented home, with Chi secure, and have purchased a new home to reside in. There is a constant struggle with doctors who want to bring Chi back into the hospital but the family is vehemently against it, saying he is best kept at home with doctors and nurses coming to visit him, as there is less chance for Chi to catch any germs.
Additionally, Chi's brother tells Revolver that the family is looking into stem-cell therapy for Chi saying “Once his health gets a little better, we’ll start looking into other options…but they don’t even do it (stem cell therapy) in the U.S. yet. It’s a miracle he’s still with us. He’s alive and kicking and he’s fighting, and I think there’s a reason for it. I’m hoping there’s a light at the end of the tunnel for Chi.”
At this point, the family is willing to try anything. It's good to hear there is progress, and Chi is able to move his limbs.
