DAVID LEE ROTH Says He & VAN HALEN Brothers "Have Always Hated Each Other"
David Lee Roth is nothing if not incredibly candid. And he was being very honest on the most recent edition of Marc Maron’s WTF Podcast. Roth was the featured guest and naturally the conversation steered towards the band.
I haven't had a chance to listen to the episode yet, but it seems like a must-listen after seeing these quotes that Ghost Cult Mag pulled from the episode:
Asked by Maron about his relationship with Eddie and Alex:
“We have always hated each other, right up until the last phone call.”
How the band started writing together in the beginning of the band:
“There were always creative differences. We’ve never gotten along. We started in rival bands. Bitter rivals. But we were thrown together and it was amazing.”
On why Van Halen works, in spite of the ill feelings:
“Think of your favorite jeans, their ruined and full of holes. What you love most about them is the fucked up parts.”
On whether he can hang out with the brothers or have dinner with them socially:
“Not even close.”
I can't say there's anything too shocking here. It's been known that the two parties can't stand each others guts and when the band did get together for a reunion tour, they all traveled in separate buses and stayed in opposite parts of the arena.
