Corey Taylor Says SLIPKNOT Could Continue Without Him If He Was Unable To Keep Going

Could you imagine Slipknot without Corey Taylor?

A week before Slipknot's big unveiling of their new masks and album cycle, Corey Taylor announced he was going into double knee surgery. It was ultimately a minor procedure and a success and Taylor made it to the stage to perform on Jimmy Kimmel Live. But what if the unfortunate situation arises that Taylor could no longer continue fronting Slipknot? Taylor thinks the band would continue just fine.

In a new interview with Metal Hammer magazine, the question is broached and Taylor was asked, 20 years in, how much longer the band could keep going and he responded: “I mean, it’s crossed my mind as the years have gone on. It’s gotten harder to do this. You think about when the end is. No one thought we’d be doing it 20 years later.

“If I just couldn’t do it anymore, I’d just stop, but that doesn’t mean that the band would stop. If I can’t do it then someone might be able to take my place.

“I’ve thought about it before: If the right person came around and the guys were into it then I’ll just head off. We can’t shortchange anyone.”

Later he added “Everything we went through, the tragedy and the drama, and we kept the band’s spirit alive. We never watered anything down, we never tried to do anything that didn’t feel right.

“That’s the whole point of Slipknot: to do whatever you want but to do it at 100mph.”

I would say the folks behind Slipknot would be hard pressed to find a vocalist as good as Taylor, who would also have such a great command of stage presence but ultimately, I absolutely could see a scenario like this happen. A few years ago, Clown surmised he could see the band's children take over eventually, and some of them have proven to be up to the task.

Slipknot is releasing their new album, We Are Not Your Kind, on August 9th, which is among our most anticipated for 2019. The band have a busy summer ahead. They have set up a massive tour with Volbeat, Gojira and Behemoth. Here are the dates:
