We were so excited. Last year, System of A Down drummer John Dolmayan said a new album is coming in 2017. Sadly, now that we're half way through with the year, that looks not to be the case.
Over the weekend, System of A Down bassist Shavo Odadjian participated in a live Q&A on Instagram, and pretty much immediately addressed the prospect of a new album. Or in this case, a lack of a prospect of a new album.
I know, I'm waiting for a new album too. It's not happening, I don't know. I don't know when it's gonna be. Not right now.
Drummer John Dolmayan has stated twice now that there are 15 new songs written, though no real timetable as to when they'll be recorded and released. Frontman Serj Tankian doesn't really talk about it for the most part, aside from this same article where he remains pretty neutral on the topic. Fans are starting to speculate that Odadjian and Dolmayan are the two driving forces in the band that are pushing for a new album to come out.
So stay tuned, and remember – you've been waiting longer for a new System Of A Down album than you have for a Tool album at this point. Even though System broke up between 2006 and 2010… but still!
