Bummer Alert

SLAYER's New Zealand Show Canceled As A Result of Last Week's Mass Shooting

It was to be their final show in New Zealand.

It was to be their final show in New Zealand.

Here's a bummer for Slayer fans in New Zealand – the band's show last night (March 17th) was canceled. The event was scheduled to take place only two days after 50 Muslim New Zealanders lost their lives at the hands of a despicable white supremacist.

Vbase, the company that operates the Horncaste Arena, where Slayer were scheduled to play, made the decision to cancel the show after urgings from local authorities over security concerns:

“Following advice from the Police and Christchurch City Council, Vbase has made the decision to cancel the Slayer concert which was due to take place at Horncastle Arena on Sunday 17 March.

“’The advice we have received is too compelling to ignore and we have made this decision in conjunction with the Police and Christchurch City Council. We understand fans may be disappointed, however, we feel that it is in the best interest for the safety and wellbeing of the public after the tragic events which unfolded across our city 24 hours ago.’ Tim Scandrett, Vbase Board Chairperson said.

“On behalf of Vbase our heartfelt deepest sympathies go out to all the families affected by the recent tragedy.”

Vbase were very close to the situation, as an employee, Hussein Al-Umari, was among those killed in the shooting.

No word from Slayer yet if there are any plans to reschedule.

I can see how Slayer fans in the Christchurch area can be angry at the matter, but it seems like the situation was out of their hands completely, and it was a case of local law enforcement taking extra precautions after an incredibly traumatic event for the country.

Our thoughts are with all New Zealanders at this difficult time.
