The Monsters of Rock festival was held in Brazil this weekend, and one of the headliners had to pull out at the last minute. That band was of course Motorhead.
Lemmy was struggling with a health scare last year, but has since been on the road to recovery. Recent photos show Kilmister has lost a significant amount of weight. Reports from the day of the show not Lemmy was suffering from gastric distress and dehydration. Kilmister was taken to a local hospital to undergo testing. Perhaps Lemmy should lay off the Taco Bell before showtime. The band has since released a statement:
"Due to a food-related tummy problem, unfortunately, Lemmy was not able to perform the show in São Paulo. He is already feeling much better and ready to continue the South America dates! Next stop Curitiba!
"Lemmy regrets this mishap very much and is looking forward to making it up to all the fans."
Good to hear this was just a one-off mishap and no other shows are planned to be missed. For their part, the remaining members of Motorhead invited up other musicians playing the fest for some all-star jams to send the fans home happy.
The ultimate thing is I hope Lemmy is taking care of himself. In a recent interview with Full Metal Jackie, he spoke about how he's cut down on smoking and sugar:
"I stopped smoking for about two years, but I started smoking again," he said (hear audio below). "But I'm only doing a pack a week, as opposed to two packs a day, which I was doing. And I stopped drinking Coca-Cola. I haven't had a Coke for two years, 'cause I think they're evil. [There are] ten spoons of sugar in a can of Coke, and I've got diabetes, you know," later adding "I drink vodka and orange now. It's very much less."
There is quite a bit of sugar in orange juice as well, Lemmy! Just drink it straight. In the same interview, he spoke on the thought of dying and seemed to be accepting of it's inevitability:
"Death is an inevitability, isn't it? You become more aware of that when you get to my age. I don't worry about it. I'm ready for it. When I go, I want to go doing what I do best. If I died tomorrow, I couldn't complain. It's been good."
