Nevermore frontman Warrel Dane passed away on December 13, 2017. Dane was recording his first solo album in 10 years at the time, and fans had been hoping at some point he'd get back together with the Nevermore dudes and maybe do the first album since 2010's The Obsidian Conspiracy.
Now Dane's ex-bandmate, guitarist Jeff Loomis, tells Loud TV that he remembers quite a lot of good times with Dane and even calls him "one of the great vocalists of a metal era."
"It's a sad situation with one of my best friends that I grew up being in a band with. [He was] one of the best lyricists in metal, I believe, that was ever out there — a fabulous person. He was a troubled person too at the same time; he had some issues. We had many great times together in the past, and we had many bad times, but I would say that the good times outweighed the bad. And in the end, we were talking still as friends, and we talked in the end before he passed away. We were on good terms. It's a very sad loss to the music community and he'll be well remembered as one of the great vocalists of a metal era."
As for a Nevermore reunion without Dane, Loomis says it's straight up not going to happen. He adds that there were talks "like maybe a year, a year and a half ago about maybe doing a reunion show," but things never materialized. He adds now that Dane has passed, "obviously, now it's not going to happen," which seems like the right call. Nevermore was Loomis, Dane, Jim Sheppard, and Van Williams. Without any of those four dudes, it just wouldn't be the same.
