SLEEP TERROR call it quits

One of the most promising instrumental acts a few years ago was a two-man band called SLEEP TERROR. Created by Luke Jaeger, he recorded a ton of instrumental tracks with drum machines on them that were a key ingredient in my life's soundtrack a few years ago. We loved the band so much, we booked a very rare show in NYC for them (and documented it in our short lived series Check This Shit Out). Anyway, seems there isn't much of a market for a two-piece band with no vocalist as Jager issued the following statement about the demise of this project…

"Unfortunately, I can safely say that not much is in store for Sleep Terror itself as the project has reached the end of an eight year run that I can't really sustain any longer. I will try to make the reasoning brief, if at all possible.

"I will skip the long version speech about how difficult it is for non-touring artists to make any money to continue making the music they and their fans love. Labels are crumbling right now right along with the bands they are ripping off because of the kids filesharing music and CDs becoming extinct. Me being long distance to the only drummer I know (or could pay enough) to play it doesn't help, and unfortunately we've had laughable offers and contractual business in terms of what we could be funded for in regards to a studio album recording or tour support issues. Bottom line, a car can't run with only a few drops of fuel in the tank.

"I feel I've done my best work possible with this project and that it's time to move on to different things musically and appreciate it for what it was (or is… however you choose to see it). I can't thank those enough who've supported this throughout the years, you all know who you are. You mean everything because without you I am nothing."

Total bummer. You can still check out some of their intenseness on the band's MySpace page
