Every Thursday, Gimme Radio Program Director, Brian Turner, delivers the top 5 jaw-dropping tracks on Gimme Radio.

Culled from the week’s past shows, these tracks have the Gimme Radio DJs' seal of approval, have the listeners demanding more and the Gimme office buzzing.

VENOM PRISON – Uterine Industrialisation

On the headwinds of their anticipated Samsara LP (due March 15th), the UK quintet definitely take it up a notch from their last effort with a powerful document: frantic guitar, thick layers of chaos and noise amidst flying-shrapnel rhythms, shredding pipes of vocalist Larissa Stupar. Ash and Ben from the band host a Gimme DJ special on March 6th.

DETHRONATOR – When Lucifer Fell

Cool classicisms abound, Priest/Maiden epicness, snatches of Power Metal dipping into thrash zones with solid hooks aplenty. This London combo apparently has part 2 of this current album (titled Race Against the Sun: Part 1) due later this year.

HEROD – Fork Tongue

Some help in the form of a solo from Carcass axeman Bill Steer on this one, a righteous slice of Swiss prog-sludge. Crisp guitar attack around woozy, pendulously swinging basslines, ex-Ocean guitarist/vocalist Mike Pilat in clear menacing stance, good riff pummel all around.

GORGON – Under a Bleeding Moon

The Elegy LP finds this French project of vocalist Paul Thureau to be a curious blast in the midsection of symphonic and black metal. Rich, varied instrumentation harkens to blackened battlefields, epic swells of synths and frenzied wardrums coast along the chaos led by some seriously evil overtones and gutteral groans.

SEEYOUSPACECOWBOY – Self Help Specialist Ends Own Life

I don't know what the Sasscore tag is all about (and the album has a song titles "Stop Calling Us Screamo"), but there's some definite 90s metalcore revivalism going on here that you are seeing pop up on the radar more and more these days. Vocalist Connie Sgarbossa's shrieks are far from sassy, her melding with the high end guitar squeals going on bring to mind the trebled-out Providence and San Diego punk/noise scenes of yore, but this is down and dirty at is base.
