Gimme Metal's Top Tracks of the Week

The Top Metal Tracks Of The Week According To Gimme Radio

Every Thursday, Gimme Radio Program Director, Brian Turner, delivers the top 5 jaw-dropping tracks on Gimme Radio.

Culled from the week’s past shows, these tracks have the Gimme Radio DJs' seal of approval, have the listeners demanding more and the Gimme office buzzing.

Mirrors For Psychic Warfare – "Crooked Teeth"

Headphone surround-sound weirdness from Neurosis staple Scott Kelly and engineer Sanford Parker. Menacing, tripped out and tribal, almost like Autechre, Lull and Sunn o))) decided to make good use of overlapping studio time. The claustrophobic sounds allude to some real-life psychic turmoil, unfortunately an issue Kelly has been grappling with enough to recently announce tour cancellation. Hoping the best for him.

Death Worship – "Evocation Chamber"

Death Worship's roots lie in Blasphemy and Conqueror among other bands, and while fans await a followup to their 2016 'Extermination Mass' LP, Nuclear War Now comes up with some interim goods in the form on a tape-only release of home demos. Despite the rumble and grit, there's high craftmanship going on here.

Unleashed – "Lead Us Into War"

Odin unleashed puts you in a headlock on the leadoff track to these sinister Stockholmers' latest. For 30 years Johnny Hedlund and company have been paving the Viking future mixing defined ideology and graven riffery into a solidified vision.

Igorrr – "Damaged Wig"

Frank Godla's recent Igorrr interview on Gimme stirred us to dig back into this bit of 2012 damage: Death drum 'n' bass glitchery, operatic wails, epilepsy-inducing insanity. Funeral music for the zero-attention-span special fatality in your life, a carnival of chaos to make Mr. Bungle sound like Lana Del Rey.

Skepticism – "The Gallant Crow"

For the brand new Svart vinyl reissue of this 1995 funeral doom staple, the band brought in producer Anssi Kippo to not only remix the original tapes but adapt modern technology to bring out certain extreme sounds they were limited in achieving two decades earlier. The heady darkness of this track earmarks the disappointment of some in the mid 90's when what were promising directions for certain darker avenues of metal fell a bit into a cookie cutter mold. Skepticism were a unique voice coming out of it all, and the album still sounds stunning even in an altered state.
