KROSSFYRE – Infernal War

Hard to categorize, the debut LP from these guys on Hells Headbangers is a tornado of black/death/thrash brutality boiled down to its very core to create a blackened mass of pure metal. Made up of members of Sheidim, Spain's Graveyard, Körgull the Exterminator, Insulters, Morbid Flesh, and Suspira, Krossfyre's sonic stew is whipped to brutal perfection.

BOUND IN FEAR – Penance

Molotov Solution vocalist Nick Arthur continues his departure from that band to guest spot on this new Bound In Fear track, a gutteral metalcore throwdown in advance of the band's October 'Penance' release out on Unique Leader. A bleak downtempo slice of eerie, crushing chaos.

BENIGHTED – A Personified Evil

Benighted are back and continuing to slaughter with their modern swipe at death metal, and their latest continues their adventurous path joined here by Fleshgod Apocalypse's Francesco Paoli. Benighted's Julian Truchan is a fitting co-conspirator here, each taking higher and lower range spectrums to conjure up an all-encompassing blast of inhumanity.

GHOROT – Dead Gods

A shard of feedback intro and the wheel block gets pulled out to let this blistering Idaho trio start its slow roll downhill into a charged pit of blackened doom. Heavy riffage, surging and receding vocal whispers/growls descending into madness and gathering force all along the way. Ghorot are a definite band to keep an eye on.

OLD GRANDAD – Blatant Drug Song

A welcome reissue from 1997 courtesy of the Hectic label (the band's Vol. 666 and the OGD EP packaged as double wax), Old Grandad continue their legend publicly, one that never quite subsided in their Bay Area backyard. We of course revere drummer Will Carroll for not only his work in Death Angel and Hammers of Misfortune, but as the main reason to upend your Monday afternoon office environment by blasting his Fool Metal Jacket weekly radio excursions on Gimme Metal. The band also features Max Barnett (also in Hammers) and Erik Moggridge who now produces in Portland and has been immersed in the worlds of the excellent Bell Witch and Aerial Ruin. Dig into this exhumed slab of psychedelicized death crawl and kiss yourself for living right.
