GAAHLS WYRD, GLITTER WIZARD among The Top Tracks of the Week

Posted by on March 7, 2019 at 3:11 pm

Every Thursday, Gimme Radio Program Director, Brian Turner, delivers the top 5 jaw-dropping tracks on Gimme Radio.

Culled from the week’s past shows, these tracks have the Gimme Radio DJs' seal of approval, have the listeners demanding more and the Gimme office buzzing.

GAAHLS WYRD – Ghosts Invited

Tearing it up live in Europe right now not only doing new material but Gorgoroth and God Seed tracks, a full length studio LP in May follows up a live introductory record from a few years ago. By the sound of this first track it's going to be interesting. Blackened riffs and pummel sit not uncomfortably side by side with oddly warm-yet-disembodied, croon. Scott Walker/Jim Morrison-esque? Hm. Should be intriguing.

GLITTER WIZARD – A Spell So Evil

This is kickass! San Francisco combo channels Ozzy without being derivative; tasty riffage, flurries of some electronics, good overdrive. Yet to see them live embarrassed to say but that will change soon.

SAINT VITUS – 12 Years In the Tomb

Masters of Sabbathian slothery are back for the first time since, well, a 2016 live album recorded in 2013. Aside from having Down's bassist now, Pat Bruders, and original-back-to-1979 vocalist Scott Reagers is on board for the first studio LP in 24 years. Not much to say but the result except it's trademark Vitus in it's muzzified glory.

SANHEDRIN – The Poisoner

Brooklyn trio has carved a deep presence into the scene there, bassist/vocalist Erica Stoltz knows how to guide a song from slow crawl minor-key contemplativeness to a souped-up hurricane of melodic doom. Gimme presents two shows upcoming with this band on the bill at NYC's Saint Vitus Bar, 3/27 with Lucifer, and 5/31 with Slough Feg!

ULURU – Insidious Queen

Zoned out Turkish instrumental psych jams of the decidedly non-flowery vein, though they can easily temper off their attack and get real gone without clobbering you with bombast. Earthless comparisons ring somewhat, but there's a lot more cave howl to their sound.
